2017 Christmas Portraits | Indianapolis, IN

Jon’s grueling marching band schedule is over. The weekend hustle and bustle has slowed. Now our days are spent at home, instead of bogged down in obligation after obligation. Don’t get me wrong, I love those weekends full of activities too, but this time of the year is one I cherish the most. From Thanksgiving to the New Year, time slows down. Evenings at home together, chatting over dinner about our day. No passing like ships in the night, sometimes not seeing each other from one good-bye kiss on the way out the door to work until the next good-bye kiss the following morning. Sharing traditions we knew as a kid, and creating new ones with Jackson and Harper. We’ve watched  Home Alone or Home Alone 2 – my all-time favorite Christmas movies! – almost every night since December 1st! The kids are obsessed!! There have been hours spent laying around the Christmas tree, watching the old, green electric train Jackson received from my Dad at Christmas last year. Just ask Jackson about his “green train,” he’ll talk to you for days about all the adventures it has been on!

With the unseasonably warm weather we’ve been having in Indianapolis this winter season, I tried to not procrastinate too much on getting our family pictures taken this year. Why are photographers the worst about getting their own pictures taken?! We headed to Northwest Park, about 10 minutes from our house, with camera gear, toys, and bribes snacks, ready to capture some photos together. After endless questions, whining and a couple of visits from a VERY curious squirrel, we left with my favorite pictures of us as a family. And don’t worry, the squirrel did make the cut and has an appearance in a few 😉
